Open_Space
Open_Space is an ongoing international research project. To date, it has been carried out in various locations across Greece and Spain, including Aidipsos (Welcome to Aidipsos), the city of Cuenca, and mountain villages in Castilla-La Mancha (Trasumancias Residency 2.4 / UCLM Research Project). For the period 2025–2026, new phases are planned in the Epirus region of Greece, including the city of Ioannina and its border villages, as well as in Shanghai and Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China (International Research Program / UCLM).
It is an interdisciplinary project that combines in situ research, text, walking exploration, new media, artistic-performance practice and photography. The aim is to develop a multimedia, ever-evolving archive that documents different aspects of public space across diverse urban and rural areas worldwide.
The core of the research lies in site-specific interventions within the public sphere. Each intervention unfolds both physically—through the artist’s live presence in a particular location—and digitally, through the use of websites, QR codes, and social media. A key element of the experience is the placement of a QR code on site, inviting passersby to engage. Those who choose to interact are redirected to an online platform where they can share their personal perspectives, becoming part of a broader and evolving collective narrative.
Each participant contributes a fragment of their own perspective, becoming part of a broader narrative that emerges from the interaction between audience, artist, and space. This process seeks to shift perception from outward observation to inward reflection, encouraging a renegotiation of the boundaries between public and private space.
The QR code functions both as an open cryptography and as a temporary sculpture in physical space—a fleeting site of memory and communication. The data collected is integrated into the artist’s practice and embodied through her own body, generating new forms. The work evolves continuously, shaped anew with each iteration.
