PLASMA
Plasma is an ongoing project, the first two parts of which took place in Greece and Spain during 2021/2022 (Plasma_1_Trace, Plasma_2_Game). The idea for this project was born, among other things, from the polysemy of the word “Plasma,” which in the Greek language is related to concepts such as creation, existence, art, and biology. It is an artistic exploration based on the interaction between materials and bodies with the ultimate goal of constructing a collective artwork. At its core is the interaction between organic, inorganic, and synthetic matter. Its materials include clay, a type of plastic, and living human bodies. Triggered by the uniqueness of the bodies, each time a new form of action is born, leading to new forms of composition, performance, and representation. The necessity to document the uniqueness of each interaction underscored the inherent relationship between matter and memory in both part of the project (Plasma_1_Trace, Plasma_2_Game).
Specifically, the introduction of digital memory brought forth a novel material -digital material into this collective game. Consequently, the interplay between physical and digital materials revealed a new research field. This new ‘space’ guided the entire experimental game towards fresh paths and novel forms of interaction, recording, and presentation. It could be argued that, especially during the second part of the research (Plasma_2_Game), various events, unpredictable factors, contributions, and absences shifted the focus from the senses, materials, and experiences to recording in memory and absence. Creative contemplation regarding the interpretation of relationships between sensations and absence, matter and memory, experience, and recording led to the inventive composition of a hybrid space for experimentation, coexistence, and reflection, inviting the audience to discover through interaction. Memory, rhythm, illusion, experience, form, and interaction are just a few of the concepts that have emerged and shaped the research thus far, with future collaborations aiming to unveil even more forms and concepts.
