Open_Space

Open_Space is an ongoing international research project. So far, it has been held in various cities in Greece and Spain, and it is also planned between 2024-25 to travel in areas of the border villages of Ioannina (Investigation Project UCLM), in Aedipsos (Welcome to Aidipsos), in several villages of Castilla la Mancha and in Nanchang and Hong Kong China (International investigation program of UCLM).

It is a multidisciplinary work that uses text, in-situ artistic-performative practice, walking exploration, new media, photography while creating an online “living” archive. This multimedia project aims to create a multidisciplinary artwork while record different aspects, perspectives and narratives on public spaces and locations using new technologies, which essentially target a dual intervention in the public space: material through live presence and immaterial using cyberspace (such as website use, social networks, etc.).

The inclusion of a QR code as part of the in-situ performance, coupled with the artist’s interaction with the audience, serves as the central element of the project. Each QR code, when scanned, redirects viewers to a web page, enabling them to capture their unique perspectives and narratives, momentarily disrupting the continuous flow of time. Through this directed action, participants are invited to contribute on a broader collective experience while still retaining the individuality of their viewpoints and approaches. This interactive process embodies an impromptu heterogeneous recording, facilitated by the directorial interaction framework, which aims to shift the focus from external observation to internal reflection. Furthermore, the QR codes, functioning as open-to-read encryption, create ephemeral sculptures in physical space, offering a new dimension for memory, recording, and interaction with future audiences.
